Overview
Step into the enchanting world of New Zealand glowworms without ever leaving the heart of the city! Guided by Chris and/or his amazing teammates, this unique 1-hour night walk takes you into Pukekawa - a 100,000-year-old Pleistocene-era volcano and home to the Auckland Domain, the city’s oldest park. Together, you will explore ancient volcanic terrain, lush native Nīkau palm forests, and hidden waterfalls as magical bioluminescent glowworms illuminate the dark landscape around you. As Auckland’s only true guided inner-city glowworm experience, this tour showcases glowworms in an open natural forest environment rather than inside caves. While populations are more intimate than massive cave systems, you will enjoy the distinct advantages of barrier-free viewing, unrestricted tripod/camera photography (without flash), and an uncrowded atmosphere. Safe, fascinating, and exceptionally convenient, this tour blends local geology, native ecology, and natural wonder into an unforgettable evening. Highlights: 🐛 Native Glowworm Encounter: See New Zealand glowworms in their natural forest habitat with barrier-free viewing. 🌋 Ancient Volcanic Park: Explore Pukekawa, a 100,000-year-old volcano in the heart of central Auckland. 📷 Photographer Friendly: Enjoy unrestricted camera access and tripod setups to capture bioluminescent nature (no flash). 🌿 Hidden Urban Ecosystems: Discover native Nīkau palm glades, hidden waterfalls, and rich geological history.
