Itinerary

  • Coastal Drive & Achilles Point

    Drive along scenic Tamaki Drive to Achilles Point for views of Rangitoto Island and Motukorea (Brown's Island) volcanoes while learning about early Māori arrivals.

  • Mt. Wellington / Maungarei

    Take a short walk around the crater of this 10,000-year-old volcano and learn about historic Māori pā settlements.

  • Mangere Mountain & Local Bakery Stop

    Walk around the craters of Mangere Mountain with views over Manukau Harbour, followed by a quick stop at a local bakery for snacks or coffee (own cost).

  • One Tree Hill / Maungakiekie & Cornwall Park

    Drive through Cornwall Park past grazing sheep and view One Tree Hill while hearing stories of British colonial and Māori history.

  • Mount Eden / Maungawhau

    Walk around the crater rim of Auckland's highest natural peak for breathtaking 360-degree views of the city skyline.

  • Downtown Lunch Break at Commercial Bay

    Return to the city centre for free time at 1.00 om and lunch at Commercial Bay / waterfront before departing again at 2:00 pm.

  • Auckland Harbour Bridge & Lake Pupuke

    Cross the Auckland Harbour Bridge to Lake Pupuke, a unique freshwater lake formed inside a volcanic explosion crater.

  • Takapuna Lava Tree Molds & Beach Cafe

    Walk along O'Neil's Bay to view fossilized tree molds formed by ancient lava flows running through a prehistoric forest, followed by an optional ice cream at Takapuna Beach.

  • North Head Historic Reserve / Maungauika

    Explore military tunnels, historic gun emplacements, and volcanic views across Waitematā Harbour.

  • Cyril Bassett VC Lookout & Devonport / Return

    Visit a secret lookout point for final photo ops of the Auckland skyline. Choose to be dropped off in historic Devonport or enjoy a comfortable drive back across the bridge to your hotel.

End Point

Drop-off back at central Auckland hotels/cruise port, OR choose to stay in historic Devonport for dinner and take the ferry back to the city (ticket included).

  • What to Bring: Comfortable walking shoes, sun hat, sunscreen, camera, weather-appropriate clothing, and rain gear.
  • Accessibility: Not suitable for individuals with severe mobility impairments or wheelchair users due to uneven summit trails, coastal walks, and historic stairs/tunnels.
  • Operation Policy: Operates in all weather conditions; please dress according to the day's forecast.

Plan B

If bad weather or heavy rain makes summit or coastal walks unsafe, outdoor walking durations will be shortened. The guide will substitute outdoor walks with scenic sheltered drives, historical commentary inside the vehicle, covered view points, and extended stops at historic indoor exhibitions or cafes.
