Overview

Day 1|Discover Kangaroo Island's East Coast, Wildlife & Local Flavours Your two-day Kangaroo Island adventure begins with an early morning pickup from your Adelaide accommodation (approximately 6:30am), before travelling south to Cape Jervis to board the SeaLink ferry for a scenic crossing to one of Australia's most spectacular island destinations. After arriving in Penneshaw, uncover the island's early European history with a visit to Frenchman's Rock, before enjoying a privately guided tour of Cape Willoughby Lighthouse, South Australia's oldest lighthouse. Take in sweeping coastal views while learning about the island's rich maritime heritage. Continue your journey with a relaxing wine tasting and lunch at False Cape Wines, where locally crafted wines are perfectly paired with the peaceful island surroundings. In the afternoon, visit Emu Ridge Eucalyptus Distillery, where you'll discover one of Kangaroo Island's unique local industries and browse a selection of locally made products. One of the day's unforgettable highlights awaits at Seal Bay Conservation Park. Join a privately guided beach walk and experience the rare opportunity to observe Australian sea lions resting on the sand in their natural habitat—one of the few places in the world where this is possible. Round off the day with a delicious two-course dinner before settling into your comfortable island accommodation (confirmed after booking), ready for another day of exploration. Day 2|Iconic Landscapes, Native Wildlife & Coastal Wonders After breakfast at your hotel, set off to discover Kangaroo Island's spectacular western landscapes. Begin the morning with an exciting yet safe 4WD buggy adventure through native bushland and sand dunes, offering the chance to spot wild koalas in their natural environment. Continue to Vivonne Bay, widely recognised as one of Australia's most beautiful beaches, where pristine white sands and crystal-clear waters showcase the island's untouched natural beauty. Travelling further west, explore the rugged landscapes of Flinders Chase National Park, home to some of Kangaroo Island's most iconic natural landmarks. After a relaxed lunch, marvel at the remarkable granite formations of Remarkable Rocks, sculpted by millions of years of wind and waves, before watching New Zealand fur seals basking along the dramatic coastline at Admirals Arch. Before returning to the mainland, visit a local honey farm to learn about Kangaroo Island's famous Ligurian bees - the only pure strain remaining in Australia—and sample some of the island's delicious honey. Finish your island escape with dinner at the Penneshaw Pub before boarding the evening ferry back to Adelaide, arriving at your accommodation at approximately 10:30pm with unforgettable memories of one of Australia's most remarkable island destinations.

Additional Information

  • Liz will lead the tour where possible; however, your driver-guide may occasionally be another member of her team. She leads a dedicated team of professional driver-guides who all share the same commitment to delivering high-quality, memorable experiences, so you're in equally good hands either way.
  • Minimum age for this tour is 6 years old. Families with younger children can be catered for on a private Kangaroo Island tour instead.
  • Luggage: guests must bring an overnight bag only — max 48cm (18in) long x 34cm (13in) wide x 23cm (9in) deep, not exceeding 14kg total. Main luggage must be stored at the pick-up hotel in Adelaide (the operator is not responsible for storing it).
  • Ferry crossings can occasionally be rough — guests prone to seasickness may want to bring travel sickness medication. Weather can be changeable, so pack layers.
  • Gluten-free, nut-free and dairy-free meal options are available on request; suitability for coeliac or severe allergy requirements can't be guaranteed due to possible cross-contamination.
  • Strict animal-welfare practices are followed — wild animals stay wild, so guests will likely not have the chance to touch the animals.
  • Accessible and inclusive supports available by prior arrangement: an electric powered wheelchair (fits in all vehicles), access steps on every vehicle, microphones fitted in two vehicles for easier commentary, and written information sheets in a guest's preferred language. Guests should get in touch before booking to discuss their needs.
  • Payment: a 10% non-refundable deposit secures the booking (for bookings made 30+ days out); the remaining balance is due 30 days before travel.
  • Cancellation policy (specific to this tour): 30+ days before departure — 90% refund; 14–29 days before — 50% refund; less than 14 days — no refund.

Plan B

If the ferry is cancelled due to inclement weather, guests will be offered a full refund, a change of date, or an alternate mainland itinerary as a last resort: Day 1 becomes the McLaren Vale, Port Elliot & Victor Harbor itinerary (with lunch and dinner added) with an overnight stay at a 4-star Adelaide CBD hotel, and Day 2 becomes the Cleland Wildlife Park & Hahndorf itinerary (with breakfast, lunch and dinner added). If Kangaroo Island is accessible on one day but not the other, the tour proceeds to the island for a single day instead.
